I used to paint with oils until I was expecting my first daughter. Hitting the paper with the knife brought back a visceral experience of pre 1978 painting in oils high school and college.
I took a photo of the work to review the 'bones' of the piece, like an x-ray. Reminded me of early calligraphy, after I learned all the rules! That and my protesting days, too.

These two photos are process... first is the straight on paint, in this case the first use of acrylics and mediums to calligraph and paint in the background. I made such a mess with my palette that I took my palette knife in hand and really dug into that poor newsprint.
